More Tools

It was brought to my attention that at least one tool (a skive) mentioned in a couple of projects was not described in the Tools section. Looking through my stuff, there seem to be a number of things that I use not depicted anywhere. Being too lazy to take all new pictures for the other Tools pages, I decided to throw everything new into a generic bucket.

Skive

A skive is used to thin a piece of leather by pulling it across the back surface. A very sharp blade is held to a slight curve, and the thing is damned effective. It costs about $10 , is totally optional, and looks like this:

Adjustable Creaser

This little guy presses a thin line along the edge of a piece of leather, and adds a decorative touch simulating sewn work. Also useful for actually sewing something, as it provides a nice consistent line to follow. The side screw adjusts the distance of the line from the edge. One protrusion rides on the leather's edges, while the second presses down to create the line. Latigo holds these lines fairly well. I use a crease line on almost everything. About $7.50 (WT-014):

Multi-Stripper

Shortly after I first put up WWL, I stopped being cheap and invested $30 in a 'Jerry Stripper', which The leather Factory carries . It's worth the money if you want to do floggers, etc.

Sewing Stuff

Once upon a time, I swore I wouldn't ever sew.. too damn time consuming. Well, it's still true, but the desire to make some bags for my motorcycle forced me into it. This is really boring, lengthy stuff, and I still don't sew much related to bondage. However, some times you just have to.. using velcro on something is the best example. Here's some stuff you'll need:

Sewing Tools

Item

Description

A

Four-prong 1/16" Chisel, used for punching holes along a straight line. Use the least hole punched to line up the next set.

B

Single-prong 1/16" Chisel, used to punch holes in curved places.

C

Overstitch Wheel, 5 stitches per inch, used to mark even hole locations along curves surfaces.

D

Big, Dull Needle, in packs of ten.

E

Waxed Linen Thread, the best stuff to use. Very strong, 25 yards.

Instructions on sewing will eventually be added to the Techniques page. The folks at most leathercraft stores will be happy to provide instruction in the meantime.
