Trick braiding is not limited to three and five strands. In fact, you can trick braid with any odd number of strands (although if gets unmanageable above nine). Follow the same process used in the five-strand instructions, but during each braiding at top make a number of passes equal to the number of strands. Start by holding one more strand in the left hand than the right, and passing the outermost left strand over the other left strands into the right hand as the new inside strand.
For example, a nine-strand trick braid. Start with five strands left, four strands right. The first braiding pass moves the outer left strand over the four other left strands, into the right hand. Repeat this pass a total of nine times for one braiding step, always manipulating the outer strand of five.
Unbraiding with five or more strands is _always_ a 360 degree flip through the hole beneath your braid at top. Exactly the movement described with the five-trick braid. A full movement always has four steps: braid, unbraid, braid, unbraid. You must always stop at the completion of a movement.
Another way to extend the trick braid is _group_ strands throughout the process. For example, there are two ways to make a fifteen-strand trick braid using grouping:
First, you can work the fifteen strands as three groups of five. Use the three-strand process, but keep each group of five strands together at all times. Work this as though they were a single strand. With this many, it might help to physically tape each group together.
In similar manner, you can work fifteen strands as five groups of three. This time, use the five-strand process. Keep each group of three strands together, working them as a single unit. Theoretically, an unlimited number of options are available this way. Ninety strands worked as nine groups of ten. Twenty-one strands worked as seven groups of three. And so on.
