This braid is illustrated in ELRB on page 87, PLATE 28. Grant's lettered strands are as follows: A = green, B = yellow, C = red, D = purple. The four strands can be loose or attached at the top. Here, the strands are loose and held in a clamp for convenience.
 | The starting position, GREEN-YELLOW-RED-PURPLE. Begin by taking two strands in your left hand, and two in your right. This is Plate 28 Fig 5. |
 | We're going to take three steps to reach Grant's starting position for this braid. First, bring YELLOW (B) to the right over RED (C), swapping these strands between hands as shown. |
 | Next, take PURPLE from it's place outside right over YELLOW to become inside left. |
 | Finally, bring outside left GREEN under RED and over PURPLE, to become inside right. You now have Grant's starting position, Plate 28 Fig 6. |
 | Each movement in this braid has two steps. First, bring outside right over inside right to become inside left. Here, we take YELLOW over GREEN into the left hand. |
 | To complete one movement, take outside left under middle left, over inside left, and into the right hand as the inside strand. Here, RED goes under PURPLE and over YELLOW. As each two-step movement completes, you'll have two strands in each hand. |
 | GREEN over RED, from right hand to left hand. |
 | PURPLE under YELLOW and over GREEN, into the right hand. This completes another movement, and is Plate 28 Fig 7. |
 | Continue to the desired length, but always stop after a complete movement... two strands in each hand. |
