Mighty Bondage Belt

The 'mighty bondage belt' is a very versatile piece of equipment. The design presented here has plenty of rings to connect ankles, wrists, ropes and stationary objects. By the time you attempt this project, you should have some experience working with leather, and be able to judge for yourself things like the excess length required in a top strap to provide freedom of motion for D-rings.

This design is quite adaptable. You can adjust the belt thickness, number of closure belts, and number and placement of D-rings. In addition to the belt pictured below, I have an eight-inch version with four closures and *tons* of rings. With this width, I found it necessary to narrow the belt over the hips for a comfortable fit.

Because of the flexibility of design and assumed competence of the maker, the plan below is less detailed in terms of provided measurements.

Difficulty: Moderate

Tools

Utility Knife, Edge Beveler #2, Punch, 1" Oblong Punch, Strap-Cutter (optional), Rivet Setter, Grommet Setter and Anvil (optional)

Parts Checklist

1" Roller Buckles (2)

1" D-rings (4)

1.5" D-rings (2)

Medium and Long Rivets

¼" and 3/8" Key Posts (optional, but recommended for key stress points)

Leather Checklist

Base Strap: X+3" x 3.5"

Buckle Straps (2): 4.5" x 1"

Belt Straps (2): 12" x 1"

Big D Retainers (2): 3.5" x 1.5"

Little D Retainer: 4.5" x 1"

Steps

1 - Measure Waist

Measure the intended waist snugly above the hip bones. This is 'X' in Diagram 1 below.

2 - Cut Leather

A number of straps must be cut to complete this design. The primary strap is cut to 3 ½" wide and the desired length. The corners of this strap should be rounded or angled. Closure straps, for both buckles and belt tongues, are cut from a 1" strip of latigo. One end of each should be rounded. The opposite end of belt tongues may be rounded or pointed. D-ring straps should be cut from either 1" or 1 ½" stock, depending on the size of ring desired.

3 - Punch Holes

All required holes should be punched in both primary and other straps, except for the belt holes which will be punched after assembly. Remember to account for D-rings by spacing holes farther apart on the retaining strap than on the base strap, as in the 1 ½" example in Diagram 1. You should consider using key posts for the external connection of the closure straps (the eight outer-most dots - four on each side - in the picture at top of Diagram 1). Key posts require slightly larger holes than rivets.

4 - Finish Edges

Bevel all edges of the primary strap and top edges of all other straps. You may want to bevel the bottom edges of the belt tongues. You can apply Edge Coat now or after assembly.

5 - Assembly

Use rivets (and optionally key posts) to assemble all of the pieces. Remember to put the hardware in place! If key posts are used, don't forget to secure them with glue.

6 - Belt Holes

Find the best location for the first belt holes by placing the assembles piece on the target waist. Mark and punch this location. If desired, punch additional holes ¾" longer and shorter than the first hole. Optionally, you may want to place grommets in these holes for longer wear.
